About Us

Ours is a story stitched together by a big family, humour, and a whole lot of love and laughter.

Our salon’s name Rivon is a blend of our names Rika and Yvonne two sisters, thirteen years apart, with roots in a Bloemfontein barbershop where our beloved Ouma cut hair and created joy. First haircuts with Ouma were a family tradition, and her shop was always filled with music, stories, and laughter that echoed through the day.

During our visits, we proudly played our part making coffee, sweeping floors, chatting with clients who felt more like family, and sanitizing tools under Ouma’s guidance.

While Rika didn’t follow directly in Ouma’s footsteps, Yvonne did starting her journey with a pair of scissors and Rika’s ever greying hair. We used to colour it a rich copper, but thanks to the ever increasing silver strands, it once turned an unexpected shade of cerise pink. The fix? A quick shift to brown… which somehow became a blazing bright orange definitely not Rika’s colour. Yvonne, ever determined, saved the day with a full blonde transformation over one weekend. Miraculously, the hair not only survived it looked amazing.

It’s one of our fondest (and funniest) memories, and honestly, we’re a little disappointed that Yvonne’s become such an expert because we don’t get to enjoy those colourful hair adventures anymore!

Yvonne’s journey has been one of resilience and passion. As a single mom, she built a life for her daughter through hard work and dedication. Her move from the Free State to the Western Cape opened a new chapter: a new home, the love of her life, and a growing family.

Opening our salon together is more than a dream come true it’s a tribute to Ouma, our shared past, and the future we’re building side by side. It’s a space for connection, comfort, creativity, and community. We hope to create the same heartfelt bonds Ouma did, and make a small but lasting difference in the lives of those who walk through our doors here in Hermanus.
